Thumbs up America's 1st Concrete Passenger Steamer

Col. J. E. Sawyer: 1st Concrete Passenger Vessel

Our popular harbor fixture the Col. J. E. Sawyer (bottom of the photo) is typically mistaken for its sister ship the Maj. Archibald Butt. Both ships were brought to Charleston in the early 20th century; the Sawyer was relocated to Mt. Pleasant in 1929.
