MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (August 29, 2023) – Mount Pleasant Emergency Management is working closely with state and regional officials to monitor Idalia’s track and coordinate preparation efforts. At this time, the primary threat is heavy rainfall and major coastal flooding associated with high tides. The current forecast includes 4 to 8 inches of rain Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with 8-foot tides projected for Wednesday night. Tropical storm-force winds and heavy rainbands are expected to arrive as early as Wednesday morning.
Due to expected impacts, Town facilities, including Town Hall and all Town recreation facilities, will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30 to reopen 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 31. Outdoor recreation facilities to reopen based on field condition.

Due to the likelihood of flooding, Stormwater and Public Service Department crews are working to clear storm drains in areas prone to flooding. Trash and garbage collection scheduled for Thursday, August 31st will be collected on Friday, September 1st. Please do not place roll carts or debris out the night before your collection. ALL items for collection should be placed out Friday morning before 7:00 AM.
Emergency response staffing has been increased to support needs during and after the storm.
Citizens are advised to avoid travel during the storm and, as always, should never drive on flooded roadways.
