MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (April 3, 2019) - The Mount Pleasant Transportation Department today addressed upcoming access to the new Lucy Beckham High School at Mathis Ferry and Whipple roads.
"As with any school arrival and dismissal, there will still be localized congestion at the site and nearby intersections during these times, but a good site access and circulation plan developed for the school should mitigate those effects. Regarding plans for the area, the Town and Charleston County School District are coordinating on a cost share project for improvements at the Mathis Ferry Road intersection with nearby Lauda Drive," said Transportation Director Brad Morrison. "Additionally, the Town’s Capital Improvement Program proposes turn lane and signal improvements at the US 17 and Mathis Ferry Road intersection in the next several years. Lastly, the Town has partnered with SCDOT to install marked bike lanes on Whipple Road to improve bicycle access to the campus."
