MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (September 9, 2018) - The Town of Mount Pleasant has made all operational preparations in anticipation of effects from Hurricane Florence and is prepared to mitigate the impacts of the storm.
Florence is expected to intensify into a major hurricane by Monday. According to the National Hurricane Center, the forecast track is still uncertain, but Florence is expected to approach the southeastern U.S. Coast on Thursday, Sept. 13.
The Town’s Municipal Emergency Operations Center will be activated on Monday, Sept. 10. Updates will be provided regarding trash collection schedule, court dates, and rescheduled meetings (if needed) through the Town website and other media outlets.
To help mitigate the impacts of Hurricane Florence, the Town of Mount Pleasant will deliver sandbags to various locations across the town. Those locations will be announced shortly. Please note that sandbags will be available on a first come/first serve basis. Once they are gone, the Town will not have additional sandbags for distribution. The sandbags are free of charge.
In preparation for possible storm surge and property flooding, the Town has prepositioned equipment throughout the community and Police, Fire, and Public Services Departments are operating with increased staff.
While state, county and local officials are getting ready to mitigate the impacts of Hurricane Florence; residents are urged to prepare for the arrival of the storm by taking measures to protect their life and property. Know your evacuation routes and evacuate when directed.
