MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (August 16, 2018) - With summer ending, residents should expect the return of higher, school-related traffic volumes throughout the Town of Mount Pleasant during their morning and afternoon commutes as the school year begins Monday, August 20. Below are tips that will help make your commute, and the commute of your neighbors more manageable:
- Consider leaving for work 15 minutes earlier than normal. Each school has their individual start times, but all begin between the 7:25 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. time frame. This is also the peak hour for normal commuter traffic, so leaving 15 minutes earlier will improve your morning commute.
- If you’re fortunate enough to live close to your child’s school, try walking or biking a few days a week. Walking one mile takes only approximately 15-20 minutes and the exercise will have your child energized and ready for the days learning.
- If you have school age children, consider having them take the school bus. Again, each school is different, so visit www.ccsdschools.com to determine bus stops in your neighborhood.
- Think buses are only for kids?! CARTA provides low cost and efficient bus services throughout Mount Pleasant as well as routes to downtown Charleston and beyond. Visit www.ridecarta.com to find the bus stop and route closest to you.
