MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (August 10, 2017) – At the August 8 Town Council meeting, the American Public Works Association awarded the South Carolina 2016 Project of the Year to Shem Creek Park Phase 2.
Each year, the APWA State Chapter recognizes outstanding public projects throughout our state and Shem Creek Park won for transforming two privately held docks into a continuous public waterfront boardwalk.
“We are honored by the recognition of this wonderful public space,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page. “Phase 2 of Shem Creek Park offers the public an additional 1,100 linear feet of boardwalk, a new access point at Coleman Boulevard, a scenic vista of Shem Creek, and walking connections to local restaurants. The new Shem Creek Park addition enhances the natural Lowcountry experience for everyone visiting the Shem Creek.”
“Special recognition goes to the Fitch and Simmons families for dedicating their space for the public enjoyment. It was a partnership you rarely find today, and the comradery between Thomas and Hutton Engineering, Cape Romain Contractors, the Town and all those who took part, was special,” said Project Manager Kevin Mitchell.
