MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 15, 2017) – Mount Pleasant Assistant Recreation Director Steve Gergick was selected to be the Town of Mount Pleasant’s next Recreation Director. He will lead the Department’s transition as Recreation Director Ken Ayoub prepares to retire in June.

Gergick brings to the position 26 years of experience in the field of recreation – five years with the Town of Mount Pleasant and 21 years of combined work both here locally and abroad.

“We are extremely pleased to announce this internal promotion,” said Ayoub. “Steve has over the past five years demonstrated the type of leadership that will help him lead staff successfully in the next chapter of the Recreation Department. His professionalism, knowledge, dedication and energy are a perfect fit for our organization.”

In his last position, Gergick managed the daily operations of the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, offering residents a variety of social, cultural and recreational opportunities. He managed several major capital improvement projects including the 7,302-sq. ft. extension of the Thomasena Stokes-Marshal Senior Services Center and renovations at the R.L. Jones Center. He is currently managing the expansion of the Carolina Park Complex. He secured more than $590,000 in various grants benefiting the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department.

Prior to joining the Town of Mount Pleasant in 2012, Gergick served as Recreation Director /Community Operations Flight Chief at Joint Base Charleston for 11 years. He also served as Recreation Director for the Marine Corps Community Services in Iwakuni, Japan for 10 years.

Gergick holds a Master of Business Administration from Charleston Southern University and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from the University of Florida.
