MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 13, 2017) - At the January 10 Town Council Meeting, Mayor Linda Page and Mount Pleasant Town Council recognized Moultrie Middle School Mock Trial Team for bringing a first-place finish and the state title home to Mount Pleasant.
Councilman Paul Gawrych congratulated attorney coaches Marie-Louise Ramsdale and Audrey Brown and Moultrie teachers Cathleen Lee and Kelly Hodo for their team’s win.
Gawrych called to the stage and lauded Moultrie Middle School Mock Trial team members Barron Burns, Ansel Dietrick, Maris Ferro, Addyson Fisher, Joy Katzburg, Whitney Knotts, Emma Nodine, Finlay Palmer, Lucas Sneed, Luke Wallace, Estella Walsh, Crawford White and Laney Winn.
“We congratulate the Moultrie Middle School Mock Trial team for their victory” said Gawrych. “They spent countless hours learning about the judicial process, opening and closing statements, direct and cross examinations and how to introduce evidence. They even had to learn witness testimony and defend it against a cross examination they had never heard before from the opposing team.”
Student attorneys, spanning sixth through eighth grades, advanced to the state competition held at Marc H. Westbrook Lexington County Judicial Center on December 2 and 3. The team of 13 participants competed in four intense two-hour trials over a two-day period.
