MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (December 9, 2016) - The Town of Mount Pleasant is again projected to experience high tides across the Town next week due to high seasonal tides.
Those seasonal tides know as King Tides, are predicted along South Carolina's coast Monday through Friday. Water levels are predicted to peak at almost seven feet above mean lower low water in Charleston Harbor on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
The highest tides are predicted to occur in the mornings at the following times:
- Monday 12th: 5:56 a.m. (predicted peak 6.7’)
- Tuesday 13th: 6:52 a.m. (predicted peak 6.9’)
- Wednesday 14th: 7:46 a.m. (predicted peak 6.9’)
- Tuesday 15th: 8:39 a.m. (predicted peak 6.8’)
- Friday 16th: 9:31 a.m. (predicted peak 6.6’)
Evening tides are expected to be lower and will occur from around 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. throughout the series. Peak evening tides are predicted to range from 5.7’ early in the series to 5.5’ late in the series. All predicted high tides are relative to MLLW at Charleston Harbor.
Check the DHEC website for local time corrections.
There are several actions residents of flood prone areas can take to decrease the potential for damage or injury due to flooding:
• Do not walk through flowing water.
• Avoid driving through flooded areas. If your vehicle stalls in high water, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground.
• Keep everyone away from flood waters, ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Report blocked drains and flooded areas to the Town for investigation.
• Keep yard debris and other materials away from drains – check and clear the drains before a storm event.
