Calling all Mount Pleasant residents! The Town of Mount Pleasant frequently posts vacancies for volunteer boards and commissions. There are several boards ranging from the Cultural Arts and Pride Commission for those who have a passion for public art, to the Design Review Board where we need professionals to help guide the design and feel of new construction town wide. If you have ever wanted to get more involved with your community and give back, now is the time! The applications are online and only take a few moments to complete. Below are for immediate appointments, which occur during monthly Town Council meetings.

Current Vacancies:
Board of Zoning Appeals
Seats 5 and 6 are “at large” four (4) year expired terms (January 2017 to January 2021).
You must be a resident of Mount Pleasant and have been so for a period of at least one year prior to the appointment. The position requires a Mount Pleasant resident who has demonstrated civic interest, general knowledge of the community, independent judgment, and availability to prepare for and attend meetings. It is the function and duty of the board of zoning appeals to hear and decide on requests for variances and special exceptions from the zoning code.
The board meets on the last Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee
Seat #5 “cultural” is a two (2) year “expired” term (1/2017 to 1/2019).
To serve on this committee, you must be employed by a business within the town of Mount Pleasant.
The committee makes recommendations to town council on a budget for the funds collected through accommodations taxes and meets regularly on the first Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon.
Historical Commission
Seat #3 a four (4) year unexpired term, (April 2015 – April, 2019).
This position is available to a resident who has demonstrated cultural interest, civic commitment, general knowledge of local history, and availability to develop projects and prepare for meetings. The purpose of the commission is to promote the history and culture of the town of Mount Pleasant by creating opportunities for residents and visitors to experience and enjoy our community’s shared heritage. Duties include maintaining an official map of historical and cultural sites, public educational programs and promotion of historical areas, the historical marker program, building the town’s special collection and developing history related tourism.
Applicant must be a resident of the town of Mount Pleasant for at least one year.
Old Village Historic District (formerly the Town Appearance Commission)
Seat #1 and seat #2 are both “at large” two (2) year terms, (January 2017 – January 2019).
All members must reside in the district and shall have been residents of the town for a period of at least two years prior to appointment. The commission protects, preserves and enhances the architecture of the old village; promotes the economic and general welfare of the people of the old village; fosters civic pride; encourages harmonious growth and development with the old village historic district; and promotes the use and preservation of the historic district for the education and welfare of the residents of the town.
The old village – historic district commission meets on the second Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
Planning Commission
The position, seat #5, is for a four year “expired” term, (January 2017 to January 2021).
The position requires a Mount Pleasant resident who has demonstrated civic interest, general knowledge of the community, independent judgment, and availability to prepare for and attend meetings. It is the function and duty of the planning commission to undertake a continuing planning program for the physical, social, and economic growth, development and redevelopment of the area within the town of Mount Pleasant. The commission reviews development plans and rezoning requests and makes recommendations to town council.
Meetings are held on the next to the last Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.
