MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Oct. 10, 2016) – Celebrate the arrival of beautiful fall weather and create fun family memories at the 29th Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival presented by Publix at the Park West Recreation Complex on Sunday, October 16, from noon to 5 p.m.
Admission and all activities are free! Families will enjoy carnival and pony rides, live entertainment, giant inflatables, games with lots of prizes, face painting, a petting zoo, and much more!
Free parking is available next to the complex at Cario, Charles Pinckney and Laurel Hill schools, as well as the office complex at Satlerbeck Street and Professional Lane and at Children’s Discovery Center at 3300 Stockdale Road. A sidewalk provides easy walking access from the schools, and shuttle buses will run throughout the event from all parking areas. The only public parking available at the recreation complex is for those with accessible parking passes.
“In the aftermath of last weekend’s hurricane, Children’s Day is the perfect opportunity for parents to celebrate their inner child and have free family fun with their children,” said Special Events Manager Nicole Harvey. “Sponsors, schools and local nonprofits will offer a variety of activities and games that are sure to get rid of the cabin fever last weekend brought on and put smiles on everyone’s faces!”
There will be amazing performances by local and professional artists, dance and gymnastics academies, karate schools, and cheerleading squads throughout the event.
Entertainment highlights will include an interactive dinosaur exhibit, unicyclist and juggler Mark Lippard, King of Kazoo Rick Hubbard, a magic show by Cupcake the Clown and roaming balloon artists and mascots.
Mount Pleasant Waterworks will set up its popular obstacle course, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department will have fire trucks and a smokehouse on display, the Mount Pleasant Police Department will offer crime prevention and safety items, and the Mount Pleasant Public Services Department will have an equipment display.
“Each year, countless children, parents, volunteers and vendors work hard to make Children’s Day is a success,” said Harvey. “It is truly a community event and we could not offer this unique, fun-filled event without our generous sponsors along with dedicated residents and town staff.”
Publix Super Markets stepped up its participation this year and is now the Presenting Sponsor. East Cooper Medical Center returns for its twelfth year as the Stage Sponsor. Media sponsors include News 2, Y102.5 FM, Charleston Regional Business Journal and Lily Magazine.
Concessions will be available for purchase benefiting participating East Cooper schools, including Cario Middle, Charles Pinckney Elementary, Christ Our King/Stella Maris, East Cooper Montessori, Charleston County School of the Arts, Oceanside Collegiate Academy, Laurel Hill Primary, Laing Middle, and University School of the Lowcountry.
