MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (September 1, 2016) – Today, Vibra Hospital, Mount Pleasant’s only long-term acute care hospital, will celebrate its third year in the Town. In celebration, the Town of Mount Pleasant’s Economic Development Committee hosted an outreach meeting in which Mayor Linda Page, Councilman Mark Smith, Councilman Bob Brimmer and staff met with approximately fifteen members of the hospital’s leadership team.
“Mount Pleasant is blessed as a community to have such robust medical care options,” said Mayor Linda Page. “Vibra Hospital may be one of our best kept secrets, providing quality care to those who are medically fragile.”
A privately held company founded in 2004, Vibra has a nationwide network of transitional care hospitals unique in their ability to care for medically complex patients who benefit from extended recovery time. The Mount Pleasant location, a state licensed hospital located just off Bowman Road, is a specialty acute care hospital with both long-term acute care (LTAC) and transitional care units.
“We’re delighted to celebrate our third year in Mount Pleasant,” said CEO Dan Dunmyer. “We look forward to continuing to serve and build strong ties in this wonderful community.”
As a vital part of the continuum of care for the lowcountry, patients come from a variety of healthcare settings, but almost ninety-five percent come from short-term acute care hospitals. These medically complex patients often have three to six concurrent active diagnoses, an acute episode on top of several chronic illnesses, and co-morbidities that cannot be treated effectively at an alternative level of care. Their average length of stay is twenty-five to thirty-five days.
“We always appreciate meeting with and learning from our businesses. Our businesses are an integral part of our community and provide many services that allow our citizens to enjoy such a high quality of life,” said Councilman Mark Smith, Chairman of the Economic Development Committee of Council.
The Business Outreach meeting series, led by the Economic Development Committee of Council and staffed by the Business Development Office, is designed to engage with local business leaders to better understand the challenges and opportunities they face to ensure Mount Pleasant remains unequivocally “Open for Business.”
