A solo private practice attorney, Council Member Cunnane has lived in Mount Pleasant since 2011.
Born and raised on Long Island, NY, Council Member Cunnane was a career emergency responder and supervisor, serving with the NYPD and FDNY. While working for the city, he earned both a master’s degree in Protection Management and his Juris Doctorate.
Council Member Cunnane started his public service as a NYPD Police Officer in the Bronx. As a Firefighter and later Fire Marshal in the FDNY, he responded to the collapse of the World Trade Center. His team established the on-site mortuary and remained in that role throughout the rescue and recovery operations. Promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 2002, he assisted in the rebuilding of the Department during its most challenging days in its 150-year history.
In 2005, he deployed with the FDNY to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to lead a team assisting the New Orleans FD. In 2012, he escorted a group of Charleston firefighters responding to New York City after Superstorm Sandy to assist in recovery efforts.
After his retirement from firefighting, Council Member Cunnane worked at Cullen and Dykman Law Firm as a litigation attorney.
Council Member Cunnane is active in his church, St. Benedict and he is Deputy Grand Knight of the East Cooper Knights of Columbus. He has worked on numerous local charitable projects.
Council Member Cunnane lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife Deanna and three young daughters, all of whom attend local public schools.
