Fun Activities Abound During Blessing of the Fleet Week

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 18, 2017) – Beginning on Monday, April 24, Fleet Week will kick off the 30th Anniversary of the Town of Mount Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival presented by East Cooper Medical Center and Harris Teeter.

The festival will be held on April 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Memorial Waterfront Park. Fleet Week will lead up to the festival with a line up including a book signing and reading from award-winning author Martine Wolfe-Miller, Farmers Market activities, a shrimp boat painting class at Fear No Easel, Party at the Point and Shaggin’ on the Cooper.

Awarded the William Faulkner Literary Award for Best Novel in 2016, local author Martine Wolfe-Miller will read selections of her southern mystery novel “The Hurricane Stew” inspired by the Lowcountry. She will sign copies for participants and three winners will be drawn to take home a free book! Complimentary refreshments will be provided. For more information, visit

Mount Pleasant Farmers Market
Tuesday, April 25, 3:30 to 7 p.m., FREE
Farmers Market Pavilion, Coleman Boulevard

Come learn about and meet some of the great folks from this year’s festival beneficiaries, the Charleston Port and Seafarers’ Society and East Cooper Meals on Wheels. While enjoying the market, stock up on wild-caught shrimp and an impressive variety of locally grown produce and prepared foods.

Fear No Easel: Shrimp Boat
Thursday, April 27, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., $25 (advance purchase)

Paint and sip while creating your own sunset Shrimp Boat masterpiece with step-by-step instructions. No painting experience is necessary. Bing your own refreshments or purchase onsite.

Ready to get your toes in the sand? Come out and enjoy the kickoff of this summer favorite with music by Banana Pancakes - The Jack Johnson Tribute Band, a regional band made up of a group of seasoned musicians who came together to pay tribute to the “groovy stylings” and smooth sounds of Jack Johnson. The band is based in Charlotte, North Carolina! Food and beverages available for purchase. No coolers or pets, please.

Nina and Pinta Public Tours
Friday, April 28 through May 9
Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina
Walk-aboard guided tours will be available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fees are $8 adults, $7 senior citizens, $6 for students to age 16. Children under age 4 are free.

Replicas of two ships that made history when Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World will be open for public tours. The Nina and Pinta caravels, are nimble Portuguese sailing vessels, operated by the Columbus Foundation of the British Virgin Islands, an educational group.
