Coastal Retreat Gets New Look; Reopens For Business

Shem Creek Inn Ribbon Cutting

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 1, 2017) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, along with Mount Pleasant Council Members Gary Santos, Joe Bustos, Elton Carrier, Will Haynie, Jim Owens and Mark Smith, attended the grand reopening of Shem Creek Inn Tuesday. Opening in 1986, the Inn has welcomed many visitors to Mount Pleasant, and with the newly renovated and expansion of space, it is prepared to welcome even more.

Shem Creek Inn, located here on the shores of its namesake, recently completed a top-to-bottom renovation. The renovation encompasses the entire hotel, which has a total of 51 guest rooms and suites, as well as all public spaces, including the lobby and corridors. Additions to the property include an expanded lobby area and a redesigned entrance featuring a porte cochere.

“The Shem Creek Inn has provided exceptional service to visitors of Mount Pleasant for many years,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page. “We are thrilled for the hotel to open once again and for all to enjoy the beautiful renovations.”

Shem Creek Inn’s transformation pays homage to its surroundings, capturing the energy and evolution of the area’s thriving marshlands, dynamic culture and celebrated history. In keeping with Shem Creek Inn’s commitment to being true to the community, the hotel selected Charleston-area firms to lead both design and construction efforts. Interiors were designed by Mount Pleasant-based firm Amy Trowman Designs, while construction was managed by Newport Construction, under the leadership of Rob Hamill. This was the first major renovation for the property since its opening.

Venturing away from the frenetic downtown Charleston hubbub, guests will immediately feel at ease in a sanctuary-like space achieved through nautical textures, reclaimed woods and classic lines. The hotel’s overall design now offers a more open layout, providing guests the opportunity to seek refuge in a relaxing space with access to both wildlife and nightlife. The new lobby features an organic color palette inspired by the surrounding marsh and wetlands: driftwood greys, sandy creams, and ocean blues.

“Shem Creek Inn is now a place where guests can enjoy the area whether in town for business or pleasure,” noted General Manager, James Poole. “We want the hotel to be a welcome haven for guests to feel right at home.”

Keeping guests’ concerns in mind was a top priority for the project.

“We value our guests’ opinions and are grateful for their feedback. We have incorporated them into the renovations to create an even better product,” explained Poole. Such improvements include fully renovated guestrooms with new flooring, furniture, and finishings, as well as upgraded bathrooms.

Reservations are now being accepted.
