MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (September 21, 2015) – The Town of Mount Pleasant recently hosted a business outreach meeting with East Cooper Medical Center at 2000 Hospital Drive. Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, Councilmembers Mark Smith, Elton Carrier, and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall, along with Town Administrator Eric DeMoura, Assistant Town Administrator Katherine Hendricks, Business Development Officer Amy Livingston, and Government Outreach Officer Lauren Sims met with ECMC Chief Executive Officer Jason Alexander.
Accompanying Mr. Alexander were Chief Operating Officer Ramona Pickens, Chief Financial Officer Brandon Williams, Chief Human Resources Officer Tracy Hunter, Chief Nursing Officer Terri Harris, Director of Business Development Craig Maxey, and Administrative Resident Megan Powe.
“I would like to thank ECMC for graciously hosting our business outreach meeting at their facility,” said Mayor Page. “The meetings are informal roundtable discussions where business owners have an opportunity to discuss topics important to them with their elected officials. The business outreach meetings are spearheaded by the Economic Development Committee and supported by the Business Development Office. They are a great way to connect with local businesses, exchange information, understand the challenges and opportunities our local businesses face, and strengthen community relationships.”
Town officials and staff were offered a tour of Mount Pleasant’s first hospital. The 130-bed facility also holds an additional 10 beds in the neonatal unit. ECMC employs 800 staff and is one of the largest private employers in Mount Pleasant. The medical center consistently ranks highest across the company’s 81 hospitals nationwide for patient satisfaction, year-over-year.
Growth, transportation and community involvement were among the topics discussed at the business outreach meeting.
Mr. Alexander stated that ECMC is a community-driven organization whose growth is determined by community demands. To face the demands of growth, the medical center is currently looking at future expansion opportunities in several areas of Mount Pleasant.
Committed to employee development and retention, Mr. Alexander touted programs such as tuition assistance and scholarships, as well as the creation of alternative work schedules designed to ease some of the burden of long commutes. Mayor Page and Council will continue to work with ECMC on increased public transportation options for employees.
ECMC is a long-time sponsor of the Town’s special events, sports teams, parades, and plans to implement a series of public engagement campaigns to bring added awareness to the medical center and further establish themselves as an integral part of the community.
