MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Sept. 14, 2015) – At the September Town Council Meeting, Mayor Linda Page reported on the Town’s request to be added as a recognized city for the 29429 ZIP Code, currently only assigned to the Town of Awendaw.
“I am excited to announce that, effective immediately, the United States Postal Service has agreed to add Mount Pleasant to the 29429 ZIP Code,” said Mayor Page. “Our appeal was based on the rapid growth rate we have experienced and the hundreds of requests from citizens we have received. Having an address in Awendaw and yet being provided services by the Town of Mount Pleasant generated a lot of confusion for our residents. I would like to thank the United Postal Service for accommodating our request. We are glad to be able to add this new ZIP Code to our mailing service.”
In a letter addressed to Mayor Page, USPS District Manager Darryl Martin stated that residents in Awendaw who are in the town limits of Mount Pleasant will be allowed to change the last line of their mailing address to Mount Pleasant, using ZIP Code 29429. He added that residents may continue to pick up left-notice mail from the Awendaw Post Office.
Martin urged residents should notify their correspondents of the new mailing address and warned that residents may experience brief delays in delivery due to mail being redirected if the incorrect ZIP code is used.
