MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 28, 2015) -The Culture, Arts & Pride Commission of the Town of Mount Pleasant will accept submissions through February 22 from Lowcountry authors of plays, screenplays and novels for its second Writers Workshop in March.
A free program, the Writers Workshop will allow authors to see their original short (5- to 7-page) play or screenplay scene performed by local actors and directors. Novelists can participate by adapting a short scene from their novel into standard play or screenplay form for submission. The Writers Workshop will take place over two consecutive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The program will commence on March 7 at the G.M. Darby Building. The second installment of the workshop will be March 14 at the R. L. Jones Recreation Center.
On March 7, each scene will be performed and other workshop writers, CAP Commission members, actors and directors will offer critiques on how to improve the scene through revision. The writer will then rewrite the scene for March 14, where the actors will read the revised version, and further critique will be offered.
The workshop is limited in the number of scenes accepted and earlier submissions will be given priority consideration. All Lowcountry writers, actors and directors are welcome to apply. It is not necessary to be a Mount Pleasant resident to participate. Pre-registration is mandatory; no walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the workshop.
Local actors and directors are also invited to apply for the workshop and submit an actor/director form. The final choices of actors will be determined by the roles that need to be filled. Writers, actors and directors must be available both Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Because the workshop is a creative work environment and not a performance, it will not be open to the general public.
For more information and a writer’s submission packet or actor/director submission packet (mandatory with all submissions), please email CAP Commissioner Susan Sloate at email@example.com. Writer’s submission packets are also available on the Town of Mount Pleasant website at www.tompsc.com.
