MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 22, 2015) – The Mount Pleasant Building Inspection Division’s online submittal process has transformed the way this busy 16-staff division does business. Fully implemented since April 2014, the online module has increased communications with contractors and clients, reduced paper footprint and cut the turnaround time in half. Last year, the Building Inspection Division issued 3,368 construction permits.
“We began implementing online submittals in the Planning Division three years ago,” said Planning Director Christiane Farrell. “The Building Inspection Division’s conversion has further increased our internal and external efficiencies – we are now almost entirely paperless and are sharing information with our customers in real time and with greater ease.”
The Building Inspection Division reviews construction plans for all residential and commercial development, including additions and renovations Field inspectors ensure compliance with Town building codes and zoning ordinances throughout the construction process. The Building Inspection Division became nationally accredited in 2013 and has since successfully completed its annual reassessment for accreditation.
“Online submittals allow us to better keep track of the high volume of permit requests while maintaining current staff levels. Technology allows us to streamline the process efficiently and to increase customer satisfaction,” said Building Inspection Official Lee Cave.
Cave recognized Plan Review Coordinator Christina Springston’s efforts in helping transition the division to online submittals. “She was integral ensuring a smooth conversion and was named Employee of the Month for her contributions.”
