Therapeutic & Unified Sports

Therapeutic Recreation is born from the idea that every member of the community has the right to leisure, no matter the level of ability. Our goal is to remove the barriers that may keep some individuals in the community from participating in recreation activities. Through recreation, participants have the opportunity to become more active, learn a new sport, and improve social skills, all while making new friends!

Unified Sports offers the opportunity for all youth and adults to play on a sports team. It joins both youth/adults with disabilities and those without disabilities to train and to play together as a team. Smaller fields and modified equipment may be used as needed to ensure fairness and safety for all. Any person age five or older is eligible to participate.

WINTER/SPRING 2023

Unified Basketball

This program accommodates all skill levels! Whether your child is learning the fundamentals or ready to take on the Miami Heat, they will have a spot on the team. 

  • Location: Jones Center Gym
  • Date: Saturdays, starting 1/7/23-March
  • Time: 9am/10am
  • For: All Abilities/Ages 5+
  • Fee: $20

Unified Swim Piranhas

  • Location: Jones Center Pool
  • Date: Fridays, 1/13/23-5/3/23
  • Time: 5:30-6:30pm
  • For: Ages 10+/All Abilities 
  • Fee: $40
  • Athletes must be 8yrs+ and have the ability to swim without a partner/volunteer.
  • Peers must be 10yrs+ and be able to swim laps with athletes.
  • Participants limited due to pool size, so please sign up quickly.

We do have instructors who work with our special needs athletes if you would like to sign your child up for swim lessons!

Unified Life Skills

 A life skill each session, to include Introductions/Interactions, Health and Hygiene, Navigating Public Places and Spaces, Party Time/Social events

  • Location: Jones Center 
  • Date: Thursdays, 1/19/23-2/9/23
  • Time: 3:45-4:30pm
  • For: Ages 8-14
  • Fee: $50

Unified Hip Hop: 

Join Team Swagger in some good ole dancing fun!  We'll be practicing dances to perform at events around town.

  • Dates:
    • Session 1:  Thursdays, starting 1/19/23-2/23/23
    • Session 2:  Thursdays, starting 3/23/23-4/27/23
  • Time: 5-6pm 
  • For:  All Abilities/Ages 10+
  • Fee:  $35 each session

Unified Karate

  • Location: Park West Mondays/Mount Pleasant Karate Studio Saturdays
  • Date: 1/23/23-3/23/23 (no class 2/20)
  • Time: Mondays 5:15-6pm/Saturdays 11-11:45am
  • For: Ages 5+/All Abilities
  • Fee: $250

ABLE Program - Athletes Believing Limits are Erased

  • In partnership with MUSC
  • For athletes 21 and under with medical complexities
  • Location: Various
  • Date: 2/11/23-4/1/23
  • Time: Saturdays, 11-12pm (some programs vary)
  • For: Ages 6-21
  • Fee: Free
  • Volunteers needed: Training 2/3/23 10-12pm

Unified Pickleball: 

Come try out this fast growing sport!  We lots of people from the pickleball community who are excited to work with us and teach of the skills of the game.

Unified Golf: 

Your athlete CAN play golf! This program accommodates many skill levels.  If they are new to the sport, they will learn the basics of driving, chipping, putting, etc.  As they begin to understand the skills, they will work their way on to the golf course.

  • Date: Tuesdays, starting 4/4/23-4/23/23
  • Time: 4:30-6pm 
  • For:  All Abilities/Ages 10+
  • Fee: $15
