Responsibilities
While many incident investigations are assigned to officers in the Uniformed Patrol Bureau, the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) is tasked with providing additional, sometimes long-term, investigative efforts.
The bureau handles hundreds of cases annually, ranging from shoplifting to homicide. In addition to these traditional criminal cases, the detectives also investigate many nontraditional cases involving child custody / welfare issues, internet crimes, and elderly person exploitation.
Staff
In addition to the detectives, the unit consists of administrative support staff, a crime analyst, and several victims’ advocates. These advocates assist crime victims throughout the judicial process.
