Deputy Chief Tyrone Simmons began his career in law enforcement with the Mount Pleasant Police Department as a community service officer in 1999. After being sworn in as a police officer in 2002 and working as a patrol officer, Deputy Chief Simmons became a detective in our investigation’s office. Deputy Chief Simmons worked as an investigator until becoming a field operations supervisor. He was promoted to corporal in 2011, sergeant in 2013, and Lieutenant in 2018. Over the course of his tenure in field operations Deputy Chief Simmons oversaw a patrol team, patrol precinct, honor guard, mobile field force, and harbor patrol. In July of 2020 Deputy Chief Simmons was promoted to the rank of Captain where he served as the Support Services Bureau Commander until May of 2021 when he was promoted to the rank of deputy chief in May of 2021. Deputy Chief Simmons holds an associate’s degree is criminal justice from Trident Technical College, a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Limestone College, a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College, and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers class through the University of Louisville.
