Short-term Rental Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for my new STR permit before July 1st?
No, any re-application received prior to July 1, 2021 will be denied and the non-refundable application fee will be forfeited.
With my current permit expiring on June 30, 2021 and re-application on July 1, 2021 I will be without a permit for a period of time. Can I continue with my bookings?
You have the entire month of July to re-apply for a STR permit. As long as you have submitted your re-application before July 31, 2021, you may continue to rent with no disruptions and will be considered compliant while your application is being processed.
Can I apply in person?
No, all applications must be submitted online through our website at https://www.tompsc.com/forms.aspx?FID=249. Once your application is submitted, you should receive confirmation that it has been received from email@example.com (please check your spam or junk mailboxes).
Will my STR permit automatically be renewed?
No, anyone who currently has a valid permit and wishes to continue renting, must re-apply for a new permit on July 1, 2021.
Will I automatically get a new permit because I had one previously?
No, all permits expire on June 30, 2021. Anyone interested in continuing to operate a STR must have a permit and must re-apply each permit year, even if they had a STR permit the previous permit year. If there have been multiple violations that resulted in the previous year permit being revoked, the applicant will have to wait one year from the revocation date to re-apply and will only receive a permit at that time if permits are available.
Is my STR exempt from the maximum number of permits allowed?
Anyone who had a valid 2020/2021 STR permit with no revocation of the permit and can show rental activity during the previous permit period, may be considered exempt and qualify for a new permit, provided all other requirements of the re-application process are met. This exemption period is limited from July 1 – July 31, 2021. Any re-applications received after July 31, 2021 will not be considered exempt and will be considered based on the number of remaining permits.
Does being exempt from the maximum number of permits allowed mean I do not have to re-apply?
No, you are still required to re-apply each permit year.
If I apply after July 31, 2021, can I still be issued a permit?
Re-applications received after July 31, 2021, that meet the requirements of the STR permit application process may be issued a permit until such time all allocated permits are depleted. If no permits are available, the STR operator will be put on a waiting list and notified if a permit becomes available. Applications from new STR operators received after July 1, 2021 that meet the requirements for a STR permit may be issued a permit until such time all allocated permits are depleted. If no permits are available, the STR operator will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a permit becomes available. If no permits become available, the STR operator will have to wait until the next permit year (January 1, 2023) to apply for a STR permit.
